The Maipo Canyon: The Maipo Canyon, about 40 minutes by car from downtown Santiago, offers an excellent outing for the whole family.

Skiing: If skiing is your passion, the season starts in June and runs through early October. Valle Nevado: an hour’s drive from Santiago, a world-class resort. Portillo: the most famous ski resort in South America, situated 145 kilometres north-east of Santiago. Its hotel is set beside the mythic Lagoon of the Inca.
Adventure Tourism: In the Cascada de las Animas in San Alfonso, 40 kilometres east of Santiago, you can organise a 5- to 15-day horseriding expedition through the Andes, rafting or hiking.
Horse racing & Polo: A popular spectator sport, there are two racecourses in Santiago, both offering regular evening races.
Beaches: An hour and a half from Santiago by car, the sea gently caresses Viña del Mar and Valparaiso, a very picturesque port. Visitors can enjoy over 30 kilometres of beaches, distinguished architecture, the Municipal Casino, mansions and museums.
